Djokovic powers Serbia into 1-0 lead against Kazakhstan

Serbia’s national tennis team secured a 1-0 lead against Kazakhstan in the Davis Cup World Group first-round tie in Belgrade on Friday.

The world’s number one tennis player Novak Djokovic cruised past Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-1, 6-2, 6-3.

In the next match, Viktor Troicki will face Mikhail Kukushkin.

World’s best tennis player Novak Djokovic said Friday that it was an honor for him to play a Davis Cup match in a venue that carried the name of the legendary basketball coach Aleksandar Nikolic.

Djokovic brought Serbia a 1-0 lead in their World Group tie with Kazakhstan after beating Alexandr Nedovyesov 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 in Belgrade today.

“It is an honor and pleasure for me to play in the hall they call ‘the basketball temple’. A lot of games have been played here. I have watched a lot of sports matches, from basketball and volleyball to handball here and now I had the opportunity to play my first match in this famous hall that all sportspeople love for many reasons. A unique experiece!” Djokovic told a press conference after the match.

Djokovic added that his eye infection was now in the past.
