Zimonjic, Matkowski ousted in their Rome opener

Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic and Poland’s Marcin Matkowski were knocked out of the Rome Masters’ men’s doubles tournament by the British-Australian combination Jamie Murray/John Peers in the second round 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 on Wednesday.

Fourth-seeded Zimonjic and Matkowski received a bye at the start of the tournament.

Defending champion Zimonjic won the Italian Open doubles title last year paired with Daniel Nestor of Canada.

Murray and Peers will next face the winners of the all-Spanish second round match where Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez play Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Nicolas Almagro.
