Zimonjic, Matkowski spoil Federer’s doubles opener

Four-time singles champion and 2011 doubles runner-up Roger Federer was ousted in the first round on Saturday, alongside countryman Michael Lammer. The Swiss duo fell to Nenad Zimonji and Marcin Matkowski 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 in 71 minutes.

Zimonjic is looking to return to the final in Indian Wells for a third time after advancing as far in 2008 and ’10 (w/Nestor).

Zimonjic and Matkowski will face wild cards Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round.
